The SafetyDirector reports to the VP of Operations and provides strategic leadership and oversight of all occupational safety programs. This individual provides guidance and facilitates a collaborative approach with organizational management and staff to support a “Zero Injury” culture and no adverse impact to the environment. These programs include, but are not limited to: occupational safety, industrial hygiene, responsible care, emergency response and planning, loss prevention, process safety, security, and medical programs. The SafetyDirector stays current on relevant Safety regulations and compliance with applicable regulations. The Safety Director provides oversight of required training, reporting, auditing, and recordkeeping with an emphasis on continual improvement. The Safety Director can perform other tasks as assigned.
Interfaces with various site personnel to identify hazards and to develop and implement corrective/improvement measures. This could include the review and approval of specific work permits, as well as participation in incident investigation teams, safety audits, design reviews, process safety reviews, project review teams, and/or job task analyses.
Spearheads the implementation of the organization’s Occupational Safety & Health Management System. Leads the organization to best practices and best-in-class results to include program development and employee training.
Promotes proactive safety participation by all employees and ensures injuries, illnesses, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions are reported and investigated.
Develops, implements, and maintains health and safety programs and policies to meet or exceed compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, internal policies, and customer requirements including environmental, safety, transportation, and security.
Supports the Industrial Hygiene Program through air and noise monitoring and exposure assessments and prepares reports.
Develop, organize, and communicate metrics to track Safety performance.
Develop and provide comprehensive and effective Safety training. Design and implement training to address any identified gaps.
Lead and/or oversee incident investigations and drive Safety action items to completion.
Conduct periodic assessments or inspections of Safety programs to identify and correct deficiencies related to compliance with the Safety policies and procedures.
Function as Emergency Coordinator.
Develop and drive emergency response and business continuity initiatives.
Proficient collaborator; easily partners with colleagues and consultants to achieve positive results with and through others.
Flexibility to support multiple locations and off shifts as necessary.
Ability to multi-task and balance priorities.
Present updates to Leadership groups and Safety Team Members.

Ability to recognize and identify trends.
Industrial safety, risk management, and health experience
Advanced knowledge of Safety regulations, management systems, regulatory agencies, trends, and resources.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Excellent presentation and negotiation skills
Must have analytical reasoning and problem-solving capabilities
Ability to adapt to changing list of priorities based on needs of the company, regulatory compliance, and management of risk
Ability to travel domestically and internationally 25% of the time
Master’s Degree in Occupational Safety.
Professional certification(s) preferred.
10+ years of experience in Safety Management in an industrial setting, with at least 5 years’ experience in a leadership role.
Strong track record for transformative results through programs, training, and culture change.
Demonstrated success in Safety leadership and passionate commitment to the safety of others.
