The Senior Development Chemist will lead projects targeted at enhancing the performance of existing DGA products, developing new applications for existing DGA products, and developing new DGA products. They will also serve as the department expert on materials.

This position encompasses the responsibility to manage, encourage, guide, and impassion other scientists assigned as coworkers in a project, and to participate in the effort as a scientist.  This effort requires the ability to manage within the discipline of a project management process.

The ultimate measure of this position’s success is commercialized products and applications and, therefore, the Senior Development Chemist will interface and communicate with DGA customers during the development process, requiring the presence and communication skills to represent the DGA Brand.


  • Understand the environment of use for a new product and customer satisfaction criteria
  • Execute new product and application research utilizing formal Project Management tools
  • Define project scope and tasks and plans
  • Direct activities according to the project plan
  • Develop the understanding of the chemical process theory required by the project scope
  • Develop internal and customer plan to validate the chemical process theories
  • Analyze and interpret data
  • Act as the liaison between the department and its internal and external customers’ research/scientific staff, as required
  • Maintain knowledge of scientific and technical developments
  • To work with and provide subject expertise to other scientists


  • Laboratory wet chemistry and instrumentation analysis experience
  • Principles, theories, practices and methodology for evaluating, designing, and completing scientific investigations
  • Oleo chemistry
  • Paper Making
  • Silica and silicate chemistry
  • Adsorption and surface chemistry
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate results with appropriate interpretations, conclusions, and recommendations to both scientific and executive management
  • Demonstrated capability to design and manage field trials
  • Demonstrated experience in taking a project from laboratory to pilot plant to production
  • Demonstrated experience to identify new project-product opportunities
  • Demonstrated experience in developing a project plan and managing it within time and outcome expectations.
  • Demonstrated experience to modify plans based upon “failure in hypothesis”
  • 5-7 years of experience in successful chemical development efforts
  • 2-3 years of experience managing multi-member development teams in a project management environment
  • Demonstrated inventiveness/creativity supported by inquisitiveness of failure
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency and initiative
  • Understanding of the principals of organoleptics is a plus
  • Experience working in or supporting the food industry is a plus
  • Experience in paper making is a plus.
  • Administrative experience and education


  • MA or MS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
